Grasp the tail of green spring
Bai Junyi said no prairie fire can burn the grass utterly, it grows again when the spring breeze blows.
Some of the celebration projects of Design Council of Hong Kong Design from last year have gradually come to a close, but our blazing fire to promote design is never dying. We hope to ride on the glow from the 50th anniversary and bring you more exciting design events this summer though to winter. Let’s live every day like a fresh bath in spring breeze.
Shall I Compare Thee to a Spring Day
The project From Mass Production to Scale Customisation, which began in early spring last year, has now officially come to an end. The 12-month project, including the thematic workshops, a pavilion and seminars, works like the life-giving spring breeze and rain, bringing significant research insights to Hong Kong industrial design professionals and manufacturers in the form of an electronic guidebook, which will be published on 31 March 2019 on Design Council of Hong Kong website for interested parties.

The Blossoms of Collaborations
After the baptism of spring rain, the flowers that have been washed by frost and snow are now sprouting.
The「DesignXcel」 2018 collaborations were presented at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre at DesignInspire 2018, bringing the fruits of co-creations to life. Under the shower of the spring rain, the new collaborations are ready to blossom in another season. The「DesignXcel」 2018 Mini-Exhibition will be held from 1 – 5 May, 2019 at the 125th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), allowing the new collaborations to flower at the Greater Bay Area.

Design Strategy | The Blooming Road of Flowers
Since the 1950s, Hong Kong has been changing over different times (local service needs of the 1950s; the industries and economy were particularly strong during the 1960s and 1970s; with the Hong Kong factories moving north in the 1980s and 1990s; and the rapid development of science and technology from the millennium onwards), many corporates have deployed different design strategies for different times. A successful strategy is what enables a business to go further and prepare the corporates to step on the blooming road of flowers!
“The Roadmap of Design Strategy for Hong Kong Manufacturing SMEs” (RDS) research team has now accessed more than 30 corporates/manufacturers in different industries (jewellery, watches, clothing and fashion, furniture, printing etc.). Eventually the insights of the p50 cases of the research study will be published and shared with the target audience together with the tool kit at the launching ceremony in mid-2019.
